Why IGPE
What has IGPE got that I should go all the way to South Western Sydney?

We have two areas in which we excel, one is our experience and the other is our educational release program - the two things that are the most important in developing future GPs. IGPE prides itself in being at the forefront of GP education, with a proven track record in not just training GP registrars, but involvement in under graduate and post graduate education. Leading the way in innovative delivery of education that is content based and responsive to the needs of the learner. IGPE has great supportive staff and a very experienced group of medical educators and supervisors who offer dedicated service to the GP registrar. IGPE education staff love teaching!
An important part of the IGPE philosophy is to produce clinically excellent, caring GPs. In order to achieve this we have developed a comprehensive and intense educational program. Our medical education staff has over 30 years experience in training GP registrars. We will encourage you to use your deductive reasoning and develop your clinical skills. We will share with you the highs and lows of general practice. We will share our enthusiasm for the 'specialty' you will be entering. If you are thinking of joining our training program, be prepared for a challenging and enjoyable ride!
Ask other registrars and you will be told of IGPE's educational prowess. Here is an unsolicited comment from another Regional Training Provider's director of education "you guys have an impressive educational program".
The educational program at the IGPE features the following components:
- Introduction to the theoretical aspects of the topics
- Interactive case-based discussion and problem solving
- Critical appraisal of the evidence, where relevant
- A deductive approach or framework that can be used to help with patient presentations
- Opportunities to practice skills in role-play situations and receive feedback
- Opportunities to develop procedural skills in a workshop environment
- Coordination with GP supervisors in their practice based teaching.
