Application Process

Teaching

Applicants wanting to join the Australian General Practice Training Program (AGPTP) need to apply through General Practice Education and Training (GPET). To apply for the AGPTP you need to log onto the GPET website, and go to the Applicants section. Until applications open, you can only register your interest. An advertisement will be placed in the paper to indicate applications are open. Once applications are open, you need to apply on the GPET website. You will need to indicate on your application preferences for Regional Training Providers (RTP).

Once all applications are received and closed, the applicants are then ranked according to their referee scores. Previously, the top 130% of available places for each RTP were offered an interview. If you are offered an interview, you will need to arrive 20 minutes prior as there may be some reading material for you. Please bring photo identification with you, as well as your letter of offer for an interview from GPET. Please note, the interview schedule is tight and only certain times are available. At IGPE, you will be allocated an interview time, and these are not able to be changed. No results are available on the day of interview.

You will be notified through the mail whether you were successful or not. If successful, you will need to sign the Acceptance of Offer form and return it to the RTP. If you were unsuccessful, you will be contacted by GPET to offer you a change of preference for Round 2.

For further information on applying for the AGPTP, please go to the GPET website.
