Dr John Stanford
Supervisor Liaison Officer
When he finished his degree and intern year he realised that he should have further training in GP. He undertook and completed the 4 year training program when it was not compulsory. He received the FMP CSCT certificate. He set up his own practice in 1992 at Holsworthy. After a few years he decided to become involved in teaching and became a Supervisor with the RACGP Training Program. He sat the exams and obtained the FRACGP in 1998.
In 1998 the government decided to stop the registrars being able to bill Medicare. He was at the ME conference in Sydney when this was announced. The supervisors formed the NGPSA to oppose this move and he became the NSW representative.
He continued as the State representative of the NGPSA until regionialisation resulted in a change in the NGPSA, changing to a regional structure and he become the representative for IGPE.
He is currently on the executive of GPSLO Network and a director of GPTA (the incorporated body of the NGPSA).
